Arthur John Muiru is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and an emerging legal scholar whose research interests include human rights, access to justice, legal innovation, and constitutional law and governance in Africa. He is currently attached at the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice at Fordham Law School where he is a Program Assistant and Associate Editor at the Afrika Law Review.
Arthur holds a Bachelor of Laws – LLB degree with honors from Strathmore University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and a Master of Laws – LLM degree, awarded cum laude, from Fordham Law School. He was admitted to the Kenyan Bar in 2024 and was a recipient of the Vivian Leitner Global South LLM Scholarship shortly thereafter.
Muiru previously served in teaching and research roles at Strathmore Law School and its affiliated specialist research centers before embarking on his Masters studies in the United States. His academic contributions include published articles and reports on enhancing legal education, incentivizing access to justice engagement, and bolstering democratic transitions in Africa. Alongside his developing scholarship, he has contributed to practical outreach initiatives in Kenyan prisons, street law and training programs in rural and informal settlements and to international human rights advocacy work, particularly on abolition of the death penalty.
