Apply Now: New LGBT Human Rights Clinic in Spring 2014

The Leitner Center is excited to announce its Spring 2014 International Human Rights Clinic, which will focus entirely on LGBT rights in an international context. Significant infringement of the human rights of sexual minorities exist throughout the world today. In many countries, LGBT persons are subject to imprisonment or abuse simply for being who they are. In this clinic, students will learn about the legal and cultural restrictions placed on members of the LGBT community and the current international human rights frameworks and advocacy efforts which address these human rights abuses. Clinic project work will focus on partnering with local organizations in Asia and Africa working to secure LGBT rights.  A full course description is below.

The clinic seminar will take place on Thursdays from 2-3:50.

To register for the clinic please follow this link http://law.fordham.edu/clinical-legal-education/11751.htm

STUDENTS MUST REGISTER BY OCTOBER 6.

Please contact Zach Hudson at zhudson1@law.fordham.edu with any questions.

Walter Leitner International Human Rights Clinic:  LGBT Rights in Africa and Asia

Clinic and Course Description:  The Walter Leitner International Human Rights Clinic aims to train a new generation of human rights lawyers and to inspire results-oriented, practical human rights work throughout the world.  The clinic works in partnership with non-governmental organizations and foreign law schools on international human rights projects, including mobile legal aid clinics, legal and policy analysis, submissions before human rights bodies, fact-finding and report writing and human rights trainings.  The Spring 2014 clinic will have a particular focus on promoting the rights of LGBT persons given the significant legal and cultural limitations placed on sexual minorities in many parts of the world.  The Spring 2014 clinic projects will partner with local organizations in Africa and Asia to protect the rights of LGBT persons in these regions.  Students enrolled in the clinic will also participate in a companion weekly seminar that provides training in human rights advocacy skills and international human rights law with a particular focus on legal protections for sexual minorities.
