Brown Bag Lunch Series Chusang Sangpo

Speaker: Chupal Sangpo (Chusang), HIV/AIDS awareness activist and 2015 Machik Global Innovation Fellow

The Leitner Center is pleased to present this unique opportunity to understand the complexities of promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention in Tibet.

Chusang Sangpo is a pioneering HIV/AIDS awareness advocate from Tibet. Born in a nomadic family in Kardze, Kham (in Sichuan province), he has collaborated with Tibetan community leaders to form the first Tibetan AIDS Group. Based on a firm belief that public health message should be spread in a form and manner that locals could understand and adopt, Chusang has traveled across the vast expanse of the plateau – visiting schools, villages, towns – some of which are located in the most remote and underserved regions of Tibet. He has also published numerous bilingual health pamphlets, brochures, books, and videos on safe sex. He engages over 120,000 people daily through his WeChat platform and has so far trained over 230 volunteers to do HIV/AIDS education in Tibetan communities. Chusang is 2015 Machik Global Innovation Fellow and the keynote speaker at Machik Weekend, November 20-22.
