From the 15th – 19th of January of this year, 491 political prisoners in the Philippines conducted a hunger strike to call behind barsattention to the unjust imprisonment and the state-sponsored repression of activists under the regime of President B.S. Aquino. Even though the hunger strike by the prisoners was a constitutionally-protected act, the state retaliated by blocking visitors to all prisoners – even doctors and lawyers were prevented from entering. As a result, the health and lives of political prisoners are currently in danger, and they are asking for international support to end the threats and repression. The New York Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (NYCHRP) will be presenting an in depth look at the situation and engage in dialogue about what we, the international community, can do to address such an issue.

Kosher pizza will be served.
