This Leitner Center for International Law and Justice is pleased to co-host a discussion of Freedom House’s special report The Politburo’s Predicament: Confronting the Limitations of Chinese Communist Party Repression with Freedom House.
The Politburo’s Predicament tracks the evolution of the Communist Party’s censorship and internal security apparatus since Xi Jinping became general secretary in November 2012, addressing critical questions such as: Is the regime becoming more or less repressive? How effective are its tactics of political control? What do these dynamics indicate about the resilience of the world’s largest authoritarian regime? The study suggests that despite heightened repression, the party’s grip on power may be less secure than it seems.
Join us for a presentation of the findings and a discussion of their implications by a panel of experts.
