As efforts to eradicate human trafficking have gained steam in recent years, one contested approach has been to target prostitution. What has been the result of this focus on sex workers, both in New York City and globally? Dangerous brothel raids, police abuse, lack of access to healthcare and legal resources, and constant stigmatization. And for survivors of trafficking? Resources that could be used to assist them are instead directed at creating laws and policies that only serve to further entrench abuses against sex workers.
